Agricultural water

Hungry for more.

By 2050, the world population will grow to around nine billion people. Feeding the rapidly growing human population adequately is a major challenge for agriculture. The United Nations (UN) estimates that food production must increase by 70 percent by the middle of the century. Not surprisingly, agriculture is and will remain by far the largest consumer of available fresh water. It accounts for 70% of the extraction of "blue water" from watercourses and groundwater, three times more than 50 years ago. By 2050, agricultural demand is expected to grow by a further 19%. In order to increase global crop yields as required, more water and more and more effective sprays are needed. However, new ideas would make more sense and be more sustainable.
